HUNGRY
Recently we Rodgers were piled in our car with Charles and Kristen, stopped at a filling station. The attendant recognized Charles and said, “Have you been to church? I am hungry.” At first we figured he was meaning, “If you are Christians, you’ll give me something to eat.” But we quickly learned that he meant he was hungry for the Bread of Life.
He quoted the scripture that Charles had given him the last time they’d spoken. He wanted to hear more.
“I am hungry.”
Those words have stuck with me. He was hungry for God.
Matthew 5:6
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, because they will be filled.”
I heard John Bevere say in a Drawing Near DVD, “The amount of the world in us determines our hunger toward God.”
Oooh. Jesus, I want to hunger for You. Please help me to not allow my life to get so full that I don’t pursue You. I realize even “good things” can take Your place in my heart if I’m not careful.
Interestingly, just before I drafted this blog (which has been brewing in me for several days), I read Mom’s blog about appetites. Help us hear what You’re trying to tell us, Lord.
Help us to be hungry for YOU.
